LA PRIMERA MONEDA PARAGUAYA

RESEÑA HISTÓRICA

Durante el gobierno de Don Carlos Antonio López y Mariano Roque Alonso (1842-1844) se reconoció la necesidad de contar con moneda propia. Por Ley del 27 de noviembre de 1842, fue ordenada la acuñación de monedas de cobre, hasta completar la suma de 30.000 pesos; doce de ellas debían representar el valor de 1 Real de Plata.

En la época del Primer Presidente Constitucional, Don Carlos Antonio López, por Decreto del 1o. de marzo de 1847, se resolvió modificar su equivalencia, entrando en circulación la moneda de cobre que se hallaba acuñada en la referida cantidad de 30.000 pesos, pero reducida solamente al valor de 15.000 pesos; por consiguiente, doce monedas de cobre representaban 1/2 Real de Plata.

La acuñación se hizo, parte en Inglaterra y parte en la Casa de la Moneda de Asunción.

HISTORICAL REVIEW

Under the government of Consuls Carlos Antonio Lopez and Mariano Roque Alonso (1842 - 1844) the need to have a currency of our own was recognized. By the law of the 27^th. of  November, 1842, the minting of copper coins up to the sum of 30,000 Pesos was ordered; twelve of these amounted to One Silver Real.

During the administration of the First Constitutional President, Don Carlos Antonio Lopez, and by a decree dated March 1st, 1847, their equivalence was modified. The copper coins, with a value now of only 15,000 pesos, (instead of the original 30,000), were put into circulation. Due to this modification, twelve copper coins represented one half of one silver Real.

The actual minting was partly done in England and also at the Casa de la Moneda (The Mint House) of Asunción.
